PENETRON®
Total Concrete Waterproofing through Crystallization
Physico-Chemical Reaction of Insoluble Secondary Crystallization
Concrete is essentially a hard, porous sponge that is prone to cracking at various stages of its life, which allows water to penetrate through pores, microcracks, and capillaries. Water can cause a wide range of problems that damage concrete or reinforcing steel, significantly affecting the strength, durability, and longevity of the concrete.
PENETRON® products are specially formulated to produce crystals that reduce permeability or catalyze unreacted components of the concrete, creating a crystalline network that decreases the material's porosity.
The PENETRON® range offers solutions for both concrete construction and repair.
Penetron chemicals penetrate concrete cracks, microcracks, and capillary channels through osmosis, Brownian motion, and reactions between dry particles. Their active ingredients react with existing minerals in the concrete, forming insoluble crystals that fill pores, voids, and cracks up to 500 micrometers wide. This crystalline growth develops in depth within the structure, potentially advancing up to one meter from the point of application.
Once this crystalline shield is formed, water molecules — as well as a wide range of chemicals — can no longer penetrate the concrete. However, air continues to circulate, allowing the concrete to “breathe” and preventing the buildup of vapor pressure. In the absence of moisture, Penetron components remain inactive; when moisture is present again, the self-healing process automatically reactivates and progresses even deeper into the structure.
With over 50 years of development and presence in more than 100 countries, the Penetron® system is an integral, time-activated technology that uses moisture itself as a vehicle. Economical, versatile, and highly reliable, this solution ensures the durability of concrete structures throughout their service life.
